Tiger Mom, Food for Fines, & Free Admission to Portland Art Museum!

Hi! Everyone-

Look out- the Tiger Mom is coming to town!!! And there are many other neat events- there's a Parents Night Out at My Masterpiece Art Studio and Free Admission to the Portland Art Museum on Sunday!!! And you can whittle down your library fines at Tigard Library with the donation of non-perishable food items. The food will be donated to the St. Vincent DePaul food pantry in Tigard and then distributed to local families in need.

It's Girl Scout Cookie pre-order time, so don't forget to order a few boxes from your neighborhood Girl Scout!!! You can always make a donation if cookies aren't good for your New Year's resolutions (actually the cookies freeze well, too)!!!!

Jan 9th

Free Admission@ Lan Su Chinese Garden (NW 3rd & Everett, Portland) from 10AM-5PM.

Enjoy free admission (regularly $9.50) as part of "Great Eight Free Days" through today! The garden shop expands into a garden pavilion to offer a dazzling display of Chinese New Year items in preparation for the beginning of the Year of the Dragon on January 23. Visitors can also escape the cold with tea in the cozy teahouse, which keeps garden hours and does not require reservations. Go to for more info.

Mommy and Me Mondays@ World Forestry Center from 10AM-11AM. Enjoy some entertaining stories and free coffee for parents every Monday through April in this new program! I Have a New E-reader" class@ Tigard Library Technology Room from 12-1:30PM (repeated on 1/21 at 2PM and 1/25 at 7PM) This class offers hands-on experience for learning how e-readers work with Library2Go. Attendees should bring their devices and any connecting cables with them to get the most benefit from the class. Space limited to 16 & tickets available at the Adult Ref desk 30 minutes beforehand. Preschool Storytime@ Beaverton Library at Murray Scholls Branch from 9:30AM-10:AM. Get your morning started with fun stories for kids from 3ish to 5 years old at the newest branch! Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother author- Amy Chua@ Powell's City of Books (1005 W. Burnside, Portland) at 7:30PM.

Here's one review- "Amy Chua screams at her daughters more than prepubescent girls scream at Justin Bieber." Last year, Chua's journey in tyrannical parenting ignited a firestorm of debate across the nation.
