The Beaverton hills are alive with the sound of music- there's a great local produciton of The Sound Of Music and several FREE concerts sponsored by our local Park&Rec!!!!

Jul 2nd

Book Babies@ Tigard Library from 10:15-10:45AM.Share nursery rhymes, finger plays, songs and a simple book while developing early literacy skills. Stay and play after the program. Phone the library for more details at 503/684-6537.

U-Pick Strawberries@ Baggenstos Farm (15801 SW Rogers Road, Sherwood) from 9AM-6PM daily! Have the kids gather the Hoods, Bentons, Shutkins and Totems. You can bake up the shortcakes later! It's strawberry season- YIPPEE!!!! Check out for details and  for a farm fresh produce guide.

Splash Pad Open@ Conestoga Recreation Center (9985 SW 125th Ave., Beaverton)!!! The new outdoor splash pad with very cool fountains and sprinklers is already open now during Family and Open Swim times. Drop-in fee is $3 per kid (In-District) and that includes pool and splash pad time. If you already have a monthly swim pass then you won't have to pay extra! This is a very fun place to cool off as the summer heats up. Go to for more info.

Baby Hour@ Portland Art Museum (1219 SW Park Ave., Portland) at 10AM. Take a group tour of the exhibitions with your baby (up to one year old) followed by coffee and conversation. More info & pre-register at

Fun for Ones (Ages 12-24 months)@ Tigard Library from 10:15-10:45AM AND 11:15AM-11:45AM. Bring your one year old for songs, rhymes, simple stories and movement activities. Great for new walkers. Make a Lego Mini-Olympic Torch@ Lego Store (Wash. Sq.) from 5PM until supplies last! Free! Phone the store for more details at 503/670-9109. You can just never have enough Legos, can you? For kids from 6 to 14. Supplies are limited so arrive early. I have seen parents and kids line up at least 45 minutes ahead before!

Stone in Love Concert@ Garden Home Park (8020 SW 83rd Ave., Portland) from 6-8PM.Bring your family, a lawn chair or blanket, and meet your neighbors and friends for a summer evening of fun and music that will take you back in time, to the days when Journey ruled the radio airwaves. Stone In Love is a Portland-based  tribute band and their set list includes Dont Stop Believin, Faithfully and other chart-topping sing-a-longs  Seating is on the grass; beach/sand chairs or blankets for seating are encouraged. Kids Active Now Drop-in Classes@ Murray Hill Basketball Courts by the Pool (11010 Southwest Teal Boulevard) every Wednesday&Friday from 9:30-11AM.

Turn the Disney Channel off!!!!Don't let your kids vegetate on the couch this summer. Kids from 6 to 12 years can get moving in these fun classes which include a warm up, workout,and game followed by a snack with trivia games afterwards. $10 per kid, $8 per additional sibling, no advanced sign-up required. Broadway Rose presents "The Sound of Music"@Deb Fennell Auditorium (9000 SW Durham Road, Tigard) Thursdays-Sundays through 7/22.The Oregonian pronounces the latest Broadway Rose Production a hit -"Singing nuns, surly Nazis, lush alpine meadows...Broadway Rose delivers the goods and the show is a hit, thanks to smart direction by Sharon Maroney, fine technical work, a top-of-the-line cast and a tuneful little orchestra conducted by Alan D.
