Channing Heights Mini-Park in Beaverton opened last week and it's got plenty of new equipment to keep the kids occupied for an hour or two.  Take SW Valley Ave off of SW Allen Blvd and you're there! Go to and click on "Parks" if you need more info.

Ladybug Theater@ Smile Station (8210 SE 13th Ave, Sellwood section of Portland). "I Bet You Can't Stop Talking for Just One Minute" at 10:30AM. Geared for kids 2 1/2 to 6. Plenty of audience participation and the shows usually last 40 minutes. $3.50 per person but babes in arms are free. Pay at the door but you must phone to reserve tickets in advance at 503/232-2346. Head to the YUM-O! Sellwood Grand Central Bakery afterwards- there's a kid's room in back so you can eat while the tots play with the chalkboard,etc. Go to for menu,etc.

"It's Raining Cupcakes"@ Sherwood Library (22560 SW Pine Street, Sherwood) at 6:30PMBeaverton resident - Lisa Schroeder- will talk about life as a full-time author and read from her latest mid-grade novel -"It's Raining Cupcakes". My 2nd grader was glued to this story about a 12 year old OR girl, her family dilemmas, friendships & dee-lish baked goods and pronounced it "REALLY good"!  It's Family Night at the library so come and hear a real, live, local author!!!! Sunday, Monday, Happy Days....What a day. Groovin' all week with you. While Richie (Ron Howard) has been busy directing, the Fonz has been penning books for kids!

Henry WInkler will read from his 17th book - "A Brand New Me!"- in the Hank Zipzer series which chronicles the high-spirited adventures of a boy with learning differences. The books were inspired by the true-life experiences of Winkler whose dyslexia went undiagnosed as a child. Event starts at 7PM but wise to get there early to snag a seat!!!! Go to for more info.

Kodomo no Hi (Children's Day)@ Portland Japanese Garden from 1 to 3PM

The Portland Japanese Garden celebrates Children's Day with fun activities including a taste of tea for children in the Garden's Kashintei Tea House, paper mask and kite crafts, and performances of taiko drumming and folk dance! Free with admission - $9.50 per adult, $6.75 for kids 6 and older, and kids 5 and under are free. You can always try and reserve a Cultural Pass through your local library also for free admission for the family (2 adults, 2 kids).
